Cleopatra’s needle is the popular name for the Ancient Egyptian Obelisk re-erected in London during the 19th Century. This red granite monolith is one of London’s oldest structures. It is said that ghostly eerie screams have been heard in its vicinity.
My son took these photos in the summer while visiting the Eden Project. They show some of the fourteen life size copper beaten figures representing Dionysus presiding over his maenads, which literally translates as “raving ones”. According to ancient Greek Mythology, their ecstatic frenzies were fueled by a combination of dancing and intoxication. Sounds just like a Saturday night out with the girls!!
